The Encounter
Monday the 19th of September, 1983, at 01:10 at night, a young woman who had attended a political meeting during the weekend, was heading home by car to her house in Hornbæk. She had just dropped off a passenger in Hillerød and taken the highway towards Fredensborg, when she felt the need to drink something. She held over at a parking lot near the forest just outside of Hillerød and left both the car’s engine and headlights turned on. Just as the witness was opening a soft drink, the parking lot suddenly became brightly lit up, as if by artificial lighting. Next, she saw a huge, bright object land about 10 meters away from her car without making a sound. Then the engine went out, as did every other electrical system in the car. The witness froze in shock as if paralyzed, but she nonetheless felt that she was in control of her senses during the sighting.
The UFO was round with a flat top and a tapering bottom – the witness described its shape as similar to a spinning top. The upper edge of the UFO had a row of glowing rectangular windows surrounding the fuselage. These windows had a pyramid-like shape decorating the glass and emitted a blindingly sharp, yellowish-white light. The UFO stood on five very thin landing legs with distinctive feet, each landing leg being 5 metres in length. The funnel-shaped fuselage of the UFO itself was 5 metres tall and had a diameter of 7 metres.
After the UFO had been on the ground for around 5-10 minutes, a sharp white pillar of light shot from the tip on the bottom of the fuselage. The window lights on the UFO went out, and the UFO took off with a loud hissing noise. The five landing legs were pulled up into the fuselage and the pillar of light was sucked up into the bottom. The UFO disappeared after having ascended above the trees.
As soon as the UFO was out of view, the car’s lights and instruments on the dashboard resumed functioning as normal, without any problems. The witness drove back home without drinking her soft drink. After having overcome the initial psychological shock, she had no aftershocks either physical or mental from the experience. She also noted in her report to Scandinavian UFO Information (SUFOI), which she did not make until 1987 after she had another UFO encounter, that until that evening in September 1983 she had been a total skeptic about UFO sightings and experiencers – to the point of even mocking them when the subject came up.
Commentary
It should be noted that the stopping of car engines and disruption of electrical systems is a common element of UFO close encounters and has happened quite often in Denmark, both before and after – see the 1960 Gyldenholm Case and the Ewald Maarup and Claus Lundholm cases for example.
